Honeymoon 2008 - Hamilton Island

Hamilton Island

So we've just had an amazing 4 days on Hamilton Island and are now on the mainland again in Cairns. As soon as we landed here we got checked in to our beautiful palm bungalow and on our front lawn was a kangaroo (or wallaby) sat watching us.

We got changed and headed out for an Aussie BBQ safari where we sat round a campfire, told jokes, sang songs, played the didgeridoo and drank a lot of beer.

The next morning we got up and had breakfast with the koalas which was rather surreal.

We then went for a quick dip in the sea and some relaxing on the beach. Later we went jetskiing which was such an amazing rush!

The following day we were up early for parasailing which was actually rather relaxing floating many meters in the air and soaking up the fantastic views.

We then went for a swim and had cocktails at the swim up bar which I've always wanted to do.

Later on we went tube riding which was mental. You hold onto a big inflatable attached to the back of a speedboat and hold on for dear life. We did stay afloat but I was flying in the air and have some cuts and bruises where I did a couple of faceplants!

To finish the day we then went for what was advertised as a romantic sunset sea kayaking tour. The idea being we paddled out to sea, anchored up with a glass of champagne and watch the sunset. Unfortunately the sea was rather choppy so we got completely soaked and were having to paddle hard against the current so after 5 mins I was wet, grumpy and tired. We finally made it though and I think the pics were worth it.

On our final day we took a trip to go snorkeling by Chalky's beach and chilling out on Whitehaven beach on the Whitsunday Island. I was mainly going to see Whitehaven beach as it has been voted one of the top 10 beaches in the world and all I can say is that it was the most beautiful beach I have ever seen. I thought there wouldn't be much to see with the snorkeling but I was wrong! Again it was one of the most amazing things I've ever viewed in real life. We saw rays, jellyfish, masses of the most colourful fish and beautiful coral.

Its made me even more excited (if that is possible about our next adventure which is our 5 day dive course). We then did a bit of chilling out in the many pools and spas and later on we went for a dinner cruise on the Denison Star. This was a 4 course dinner with yummy cocktails on arrival. The food was lovely (apart from the first time round mine being raw and then the waiter dropping a glass of champagne all over Al but we did get a round of free cocktails for this). We then watched the sunset before returning back to port.

Whilst we've been here we've seen amazing scenery and fantastic wildlife. Its not often you are having breakfast overlooking the beach and 2 rainbow lorikeets decide to drink your orange juice and cockatoos are sitting at the table next to you!
