Bratislava

Anno vino was a perfect place to stop with amazingly hot clean showers and the village felt very different to Prague, as you would expect. It was an hour drive this morning down to Bratislava where we parked on the outskirts to use the park and ride facilities. The first bus we jumped on we soon realised it was headed in the wrong direction so had to get off cross the road and start again. Thankfully the public transport here seems very efficient and we didn't have to wait long.

We dismounted at the top of the hill next to the castle and decided to take a look inside. The castle sadly burnt down and was restored back in the 1950s so you're not really seeing the old original features but they had several exhibits and lots of artifacts that were found in the area.

The place was a bit of a maze and we ended up climbing to the top of the tower which got the heart racing. There were some lovely views from the top.

One of the exhibits was a collection of nativity scenes which was certainly different.

After the Castle I'd booked us in to another illusion museum since the kids really enjoyed the one in Prague. This was slightly different as all the art work was done by local graffiti artists.

Next we randomly found an art installation in the old market. I'd describe it as a massive web of cling film that you could climb inside. This was a huge hit with the kids as they slid around the various tubes.

We then had a mooch about the old town and found another art exhibition that was free to enter. They asked you to vote for your favourite so here they are.

Another thing to see is the statues around the town, not sure how many there are but we found these two.

Of course ice cream was on the agenda along with a trip to the pirate sweet shop (seems this is a chain as we saw another in Prague).

Michael's gate was on the list of things to see in Bratislava, I have no idea why to be honest, probably not helped by the scaffolding on one side but walking under and out the other side the place was filled with graffiti and just felt a bit grubby.

Back on the bus and we took a quick visit into the tesco to get some essentials and also see how different it was, our clubcard wasn't recognised though 😂

Weather today has been miserable once again, certainly haven't needed any suncream yet. We've then got just over 2hrs to get to our campsite just outside Budapest in Hungary. That makes three countries we've been in today.

Once off the motorway the quality of the roads wasn't great, the language is also very different to look at so although we've not travelled far it already feels very different.

We're staying at a campsite 25 mins by public transport away from the centre. We were lucky to get a spot as although we thought we'd booked turns out we hadn't!

We're in the middle of a forest and it's rather hilly (not great for my run but I started with the uphill so at least the 2nd half was easier). Tonight is the first night we've cooked in the van and the rain held out just long enough for us to eat outside.

It's the most international campsite we've been on, our immediate neighbours are Italian, French, Polish and Dutch. The kids have been desperate to make friends so when the French kids came over to ask if they could play they were both over the moon.
