Dubrovnik part 2

It's another scorcher but today will be a lot more chilled than yesterday. We get on the bus, which seems to bear no actual resemblance to the published timetable and after a short ride we're back in the old town.

Our pass gets us into 4 more museums and the first on our list is the Francisco monastery. There are beautiful frescos on the walls and a real sense of calm about the place. There's a small museum with various religious paintings and other artifacts along with being the place of the oldest known pharmacy in the world.

There's still a hole in the wall from where a missile went straight through, shocking to think such a historic building could have been destroyed.

There was also a very sobering display about a missionary from the area who helps children in the DRC. To this day girls are still burnt alive for being witches and young boys trained to fight. The missionary survived an attack where he was stabbed 17 times just for helping these children. We had a chat with Robert and decided when we get home we will sponsor a child. For only $50 a year they can go to school where they are guaranteed food as well.

Next up was the natural history museum but en route we found a Christmas shop! Of course we had to visit even though we've already got our Dubrovnik bauble for the tree, we do after all have a very large tree since the upgrade 2 years ago.

Inside the museum the kids found a playing area so we gave them some down time to do some drawing and play with the toys. It was a strange museum, we've noticed a lot of the ones as part of this ticket mix in an art exhibition with the main purpose of the museum. This had some really interesting sea sculptures along with the stuffed animals.

The penultimate museum was the archeological museum, it was actually disappointing and very small so I'm glad we effectively got in for free and it was on our way to the modern art museum anyway. Well it was supposed to be anyway as when we set the sat nav to take us there it turns out it's closed Monday's so we decide to call time on the beautiful town of Dubrovnik.

As we headed back from the archeological museum it would have been amiss of us not to try Dubrovnik's best ice cream, self claimed but we're were happy to test, and it was definitely a contender to yesterdays.

After a quick lunch we then spent all the rest of the afternoon relaxing and playing at the beach, a kind lady even gave us 2 sun loungers and a parasol that her group had already paid for but were no longer using 😍🏖️

Whilst Al got the kids showered I managed to get my Croatia run done, was still roasting but there's a fine line between the insane heat of the day and it getting too dark. It was also hard to do a long run since there are barely any pavements where we are so it was already a bit of back and forth but managed a very sweaty 2 miles.

We enjoyed an easy pasta meal outside the van and at least the little one got to sleep quickly given she'd not had an afternoon nap ready for the long morning drive to Mostar in Bosnia.
