This morning we woke up to the sound of rain. Our plans of having an outside breakfast in our private field washed away. We're an hour outside Prague so we set off early for a full day of siteseeing. On the drive I frantically start searching for things to do on a rainy day.
We arrive at our first real campsite packed with other tourists offering toilets and showers so that's where I head first to freshen up whilst Al makes the picnic lunch. Al opted to use the freezing cold shower in the middle of the field since there was no one to see him butt naked 🍑. Our campsite is in a beautiful location really near to the centre as its in the middle of an island. To get to the mainland on foot you take a 12 person 3 minute ferry across the water then it's a short tram ride into town.
The rain is just about holding off as we head into the first museum on our list, the illusion art museum.
It's packed full of images that you need to view at the right angle to see the intended image and is really very interesting, the kids love getting involved then looking at the pictures we took.
After we finished the weather had brightened up so we took a stroll through the main square to visit the astronomical clock, the very first time I came to Prague it was covered for repairs and the next 2 visits were with work so although one of those trips I did get to visit again I don't remember getting such a good view.
The kids wanted a drink and that sounded like a good idea to me so we stopped in a little bar off the main area for some cocktails / beer and Ukrainian snacks.
We'd spotted an ice cream shop earlier so as we headed off to see Charles bridge of course it would be rude not to partake.
At the end of the bridge I had earlier read there was a children's park so we took some time to sit whilst the kids burnt off more energy.
The next museum we all fancied visiting was the gallery of steel figures. Again brilliant for the kids as they were encouraged to touch and interact with everything.
By now we could either try squeeze in another museum and grab some food en route or go for a nice sit down meal and get the kids to bed at a decent time. We decided for the latter given how well they have behaved having had a good night's sleep and also it's our 15th wedding anniversary tomorrow but it's also a travelling evening so we may not get time then.
We asked the kids and of course they opted for sushi and there were plenty to choose from. We chose one fairly at random and wow it really did deliver. Anyone who knows us well knows it's Team SMs favourite food so we've tried plenty. They had some amazing tempura rolls with mango pieces and another had a passion fruit sauce. It may sound odd with raw fish but it worked really well.
We found a tram to take us back then it was a short wait for our boat. The beauty of rain and sun of course is you get to capture beautiful moments like these.
Back to the van, kids in bed and I even managed a quick 1 mile run along the river before it got too dark.
Quick addition, had just published the blog and was getting into the van when I spotted something moving out of the corner of my eye. This little fella (or female) came wandering over and started munching peanut butter crusts the kids had dropped earlier. Totally not phased at all and a super cutie!
